WHO WOULD YOU SAVE IF YOU HAD TO?
Let's say the world is coming to an end and there are only 12 survivors left including yourself. Let's also say there is a spaceship going to an abandoned Mars colony that can hold only 7 people/humans total. You are in charge of deciding who goes to Mars to re-populate humanity. The colony on Mars has minimal automation, a rudimentary medical clinic, barely functioning lighting/heating, and minimal food supplies. The good news is that the caves beneath Mars have unmined coal for energy, abundant wild animals that can be hunted for food, and ample water; the bad news is the caves are unexplored and may hold unknown dangers. Of the list below, who would you save and who would you leave behind?
1) Yourself
2) A healthy uneducated 32 year old male serial rapist
3) A 89 year old, nearly deaf, wheel chair bound male anthropologist/explorer who has studied Mars' caves in depth 50 years prior.
4) A 57 year old woman who is the nurse for the 89 year old explorer. She provides him medical care and treatment he requires to live.
5) A 45 year old male physician who has advanced lung cancer.
6) A 23 year old ... [more..]
ANYONE KNOW THE REASON TO HAVING SEVERE TROUBLE BREATHING?
Quick background on myself..at 18, diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkins Disease, had chemotherapy and radiation.Went into remission for 1 year than the cancer came back with a vengence, Stage IV Lymphoma in my Lung. I had extensive chemotherapy and an autologous Bone Marrow Transplant, where I almost died, because I was allergic to the preservative they froze my marrow in. Anyway..go through that, fast forward to approx 8 years ago..I began to have fallout from the chemo. My Gallbladder had to be removed, as well as my salivary gland.I had a massive blood clot to my kidneys, Hypothyroidism reared its head, my back has gone through 2 Laminectomies and 2 spinal fusions (and it is still terrible, I live in pain daily and need to be on high doses of narcotics to control the pain) Then 2 years ago, the Dr's discovered I had cardiomyopathy...put me on all sorts of meds, I was ok for a year, then started almost blacking out, getting dizzy..etc..so they put a defibrilator in me. I am only 39!! I am married to a great man (who has been through the gamut with me and is still here!) and we have a 5 year ... [more..]
DID YOU KNOW BURNING INCENSE, MAY BE A HEALTH RISK?
Long-Term Exposure To Incense Raises Cancer Risk
MONDAY, Aug. 25 (HealthDay News) -- Exposure to burning incense over long periods of time raises the risk of developing cancers of the upper respiratory tract, a new study shows.
Interestingly, the practice did not increase the overall risk of lung cancer.
"Given that our results are backed by numerous experimental studies showing that incense is a powerful producer of particulate matter and that incense smoke contains carcinogenic substances, I believe incense should be used with caution," said study author Dr. Jeppe Friborg, of the department of epidemiology research at Statens Serum Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark. "That is, frequent use in rooms where people live should be minimized, or at least sufficient ventilation should be secured. In our study, we find the increased risk of cancer to be present in individuals reporting frequent use of incense for many years, thus, repeated exposure for years should probably be avoided."
Others echoed the thought.
"The American Lung Association is going to add it as a risk factor," said Dr. Norman Edelman, chief medical officer of the association. "It's not nearly the danger of smoking a pack a day for 20 years, but it's a danger."
Not only is incense burned regularly ... [more..]
